I think we all can say we know of someone who has problems with blood sugar balance, be it low or high. High blood sugar or diabetes is the leading cause of cardiovascular disease and premature death in westernized countries today. It is estimated that 8.3% of the U.S. population has diabetes. That equals out to be about 25.8 million adults and children. There are also about 79 million with pre-diabetes and about 7 million people undiagnosed. Diabetes causes low energy and persistently high blood glucose.

Type I diabetes usually manifests by age 30 and is often considered to be genetic. Type II diabetes generally manifests later in life and may have a nutritional origin.

Things to keep in mind…

Make sure you get enough exercise and wear comfortable shoes.

Drink plenty of fluids, especially water.

Limit the amount of fruit and carbohydrates you eat. A mediterranean diet is the one we prefer and provides the good fats necessary for good health. Two things Steve eliminated all together was boxed cereal and orange juice because of the high sugar and/or carbohydrate content. Reserve orange juice for a low sugar emergency.

Get enough sleep. The body repairs and rebuilds during REM sleep. Not sleeping well can cause blood sugar levels to be higher.

Control the amount of stress in your life. Pace yourself so you don't get run down.

Diabetes in our family…

My husband Steve has been a Type II diabetic for over 22 years. In that time period, he was on oral medication for about 17 of those years. He tried many natural approaches over the years in hopes of coming off the medication with little success. A few years ago he decided to start drinking Ningxia Red to see if it would increase his energy and strengthen his immunity. After several months of drinking 4 oz. per day his sugar levels began to drop. He was checking his sugar levels twice a day  and continues to do so even to this day. So, then he started adding essential oils like Ocotea, from the Amazon. Little by little he was able to wean off the medication. It is important to work with your doctor to accomplish this. Fortunately, we have a medical doctor that prefers the natural approach so he was more than willing to work with us.

I will mention that everyone is different and so will get different results. I said it was after several months of drinking Ningxia Red that his sugar began to drop. Some people may notice a difference a lot quicker than that. Keep in mind that he had been diabetic for 17 years. That's quite a while. Also, it depends on how advanced the disease process is and if the person is dealing with multiple health issues. The sicker a person is, the longer it may take to turn things around. But be assured it can be done with persistence. It took a long time to get in that state of health so it takes a while for the body to start healing itself.

An amazing experience…

Very seldom do we ever eat or drink anything that contains a lot of sugar. However, one day we decided to get a particular mocha drink we had not had for a long time. Steve started to feel bad and when he checked his sugar it was up to 191. So, he put 3 drops of Ocotea essential oil under his tongue and then re-checked his sugar in about 30 minutes. To our amazement, it had dropped to 101. That's powerful The combination of Ningxia Red and Ocotea has enabled him to be medicine free for about 5 years now.

You may be wondering what in the world is this Ningxia Red.  Actually it is a blend of Ningxia wolfberries, blueberry, pomegranate, red raspberry, dark grapes and apricot juices, combined with the natural essential oils of lemon and orange. It has an extremely low glycemic index which makes it a good choice for diabetics. It tastes really good, is easy to take, easy on the digestion, and comes in convenient on-the-go packets too! It is full of something called essential polysaccharides or 'good sugars' and packed full of nutrients that Steve's body needed to start repairing itself.

You also may not have heard of an organic essential oil called Ocotea. This oil as I mentioned before comes from the Amazon and it is exclusive to Young Living. No other company in the entire world distills this oil. It is extracted from the stem and leaves of the Ocotea tree in Ecuador, and is related to the cinnamon species.  You may have heard that taking cinnamon can help diabetics. This particular essential oil has an aroma that is different from any other common cinnamon. Ocotea has the highest level of alpha-humuleme of any essential oil. No wonder it dropped his sugar so fast!

Other Young Living Essential Oils that can be used to control blood sugar are coriander, fennel, dill, cypress, rosemary and clove. Experiment with these oils to find what works best for you. I think it is good to rotate oils too. Maybe use one for a month at a time and then change. Stick with it and you will get results!

Good health to you,
